Balance 2
Okay I have been thinking about this post for way too long without any actual spark of inspirational BOOM WOW MAGIC advice for you guys about how to have better balance in your life. So here it goes! It is not magic and not all of my tips will work for everyone. But I will share a little tip that has been helping me out for the past two or three weeks or so to have a better balanced life all around and has helped my feel more grounded to that I can be present and happy and healthy.
Drum Roll Please....LIMIT PHONE TIME/SCREEN TIME.
I use my devices for everything. At school, at home for homework, when I am working on paintings, messaging people for my business, staying in touch with family and friends, gospel study, Instagram, facebook, marco polo, taking pictures and videos of the kids, netflix, calendars, lists, writing this blog etc.
Not all of these things are wasting my time but sometimes I just get on my phone without having a specific purpose I guess? But I HAVE found that since limiting and controlling my screen time...
1. I feel more in control.
2. I am spending more quality time with my kids and Drew.
3. I feel like I have more quality down time.
4. I am able to get my work and homework done quickly and efficiently.
5. I feel more self-reflective, more in tune with the spirit and with myself--more centered.
6. I compare myself to others a lot less, and I have more confidence.
7. I am remembering reality, and I can see every facet of my life a lot more clearly and BALANCED
DONT YOU WANT TO FEEL THE SAME WAY?! Here's some tips!
1. Have a plan: Before turning to your device, tell yourself exactly what you need it for in that moment. EX: I am responding to business messages, I am doing my homework, I am editing photos, etc.
2. Set a timer: Its okay to scroll for a while! Its how we stay in contact with friends and family over social media! But sometimes we don't realize we have been sitting there staring for 30 minutes! Set a timer for a few minutes and exit the app when the timer goes off.
3. Screen time Feature: There is feature on your iPhone that helps your limit your screen time! Every Sunday it tells me how my screen time compared to the week before. EX: today I got a notification "Your screen time was down 29% from last week with an average of 3 hours and 25 minutes a day." On this feature, you can set timers, and block certain apps at certain times of day, etc. Check it out!
4. Try not to be on your phone when you are with your kids, unless you are interacting with them- playing a game together or taking pictures and videos with them.
5. Remember Reality: Nobody's life is portrayed exactly as is from a picture on Instagram. That picture is one moment in a day. There are 23 hours and 59 minutes of other non Instagram moments in their day- I'm sure not every other second was that picture perfect. My entire day FOR SURE is not as cute as the one moment captured in an Instagram post! SO stop comparing, remember your own reality and that leads to my last tip which I am SURE you have heard a million times
6. Be where you are: I am so embarrassed to admit this but I have been on my phone doing nothing important and Hyrum has come and taken my phone from me and put it on the other side of the room saying, "no phone." I think THAT was when I realized that something needed to change. Sometimes now I just leave my phone in my room for long periods of the day and that has helped me to not be so distracted by temptations.
Anyways! All of this has been SO SO SO worth it! I'd love to hear how this goes for YOU!!! Comment below or on my Instagram post!
